Sliding Windows

Sliding windows epitomise all the developments and improvements in windows technology that have been made since the latter part of the twentieth century. Perhaps it’s because of their modern look and sheer convenience, but in any event sliding windows have proved themselves and are here to stay.

They were one of the most popular replacement windows when Streamline Windows was formed in the mid 1970s. Originally conceived for use where there was restricted space on the outside, or where hinged windows would cause an obstruction or danger when open, sliding windows are now used in most new homes and commercial and public buildings for reasons of aesthetics and practicality.

Since that time there have been so many new developments in windows technology, fuelled by increased public expectations in style and comfort, that custom made windows and doors have become a whole new industry.

No longer do you have to put up with standard sized windows put together without any regard for your needs. Our sliding windows can be made to measure if you require a non-standard sized unit. Whatever your requirements may be, our expert advisors and experienced craftsmen can be relied upon to produce a solution that is practical and satisfying.

This includes supplying double glazed units, which are popular in areas where cold temperatures, wind or noise are sometimes an issue. Our standard glazing thickness is 8.38mm – more than adequate for most situations – so you can imagine the additional comfort and security a double insulation brings.

Sometimes a wide sliding window unit will call for additional tracks, and in such a case you may want something different from the normal half and half of sliding and fixed window. Sliding units can be greater or less than 50 per cent of the width, and interspersed along the whole width to produce the perfect layout.

Sliding windows, whether single or double glazed, not only add a touch of glamour to any home, but they also exude quality and strength. All the weaknesses of wooden windows are dispensed with – the ill fitting frames that warp so easily, and shrink and expand with changing temperatures, the paintwork that flakes and peels off in the damp and the heat, and the regular maintenance to try and stop the inevitable.

Aluminium or stainless steel sliding windows don’t rot, and they don’t need repainting. Ever. There are very few components, certainly no old-fashioned pulleys or springs, and you can almost forget about maintenance altogether. Just an occasional wipe clean for the glass and aluminium surfaces, and a drop of oil every so often on the small rollers is all you need to do.

Sliding windows have always been easy to use, but at Streamline Windows we have taken this to a new level. Our windows are renowned for their smooth operation and durability, thanks to heavy duty double rollers that we fit as standard.

The remarkable strength of our sliding windows is helped by the hollow sections used for the frames. This feature also means better sound proofing and higher energy efficiency.

All in all, you really can’t go wrong with sliding windows, and if you want only the best for your home just give us a call.
