Double Hung Windows

A-Double-Hung

An Example Of Double-Hung

Double hung windows are sometimes called sash windows, because they consist of two panes, an upper sash that opens downwards and a lower sash that opens upwards.

Some people may ask themselves why people still buy them. Aren’t they the kind of windows you see in really old houses, especially in Europe and the eastern parts of the United States? Don’t they easily stick or jam? Aren’t they a real pain to maintain, and don’t you often find that they have been sealed permanently shut the last time the outside frames were painted (or the time before that)?

Don’t they let in draughts? Aren’t they unsightly? And what is it the bad guys and heroes do in the movies? Oh, yes – easily break into a building through a pair of double hungs.

Well, all these things may have been true at one time. They have been around for years and years, but, just as with other types of window, they have moved with the times and are now able to take advantage of modern windows technology.

Quality Windows by Streamline Windows

At Streamline Windows we have been at the forefront of research into improving windows. It’s true there was much room for improvement, and we believe we now produce the most advanced double hungs in Australia.

Our expertise with aluminium windows means that we have overcome all the disadvantages that we’ve just mentioned, and added style.

As for maintenance, our double hungs are very simple to clean. The glass panes and aluminium frames only need an occasional wipe, and the frames never need painting, so paint-stuck windows are now a thing of the past.

Their tendency to let in draughts was more difficult to overcome. Like sliding windows, these windows have to move, in this case up and down, and if the seal is too tight they can’t do that. By using modern weather stripping and caulking that does not deteriorate we have developed a system that is both wind and weather proof and maintenance free.

As for unsightly, it has to be admitted that old fashioned wood sash windows often were ugly, especially as they aged and dried out. The frames would crack and the paint would flake. And the ornate designs then popular would begin to look odd after years of neglect.

The use of modern aluminium frames has changed all this. We present a choice of two kinds of frame – the Standard, which is the same as nearly all other aluminium frames, slim and elegant.

Finally, we had the problem of security. Much of this was taken care of simply by our aluminium frames, which are hollow and specially constructed to give exceptional strength. This alone, however, would not give added protection against forced entry, so we have incorporated specially into our double hungs to bring them into line with other windows Brisbane for security.

When you consider our sashes for your convenience, can be fitted externally, then it’s obvious that our double hung windows are the natural choice for your home.
