Casement Windows
Think of windows and you think of casement windows. They’ve always been here. Picture windows in your mind and what do you see if not these universal, instantly recognisable, windows?
When windows technology began to rapidly evolve in the 1960s and 1970s these types windows were in danger of being overtaken by other forms of window that had the advantage of novelty. It’s a testimony to their endurance and basic soundness that they not only survived this competition, but are now making a comeback and holding their own in terms of durability, strength and style.
Many of the disadvantages of traditional wood casement types of windows stems not from their basic design, but from the fact that they were almost exclusively made from softwood. As most home owners were only too well aware throughout that time, this meant a constant battle with the forces of nature.
No matter how much it is protected with chemicals and paint, wood warps, cracks and eventually rots. It needs regular maintenance by way of painting to protect it from sunshine, wind and rain. These types of windows therefore had a number of negative associations, so when modern technology brought us new materials for our windows – plastics and aluminium – and different kinds of windows, such as sliding, then not surprisingly the popularity of casement declined.
Yet now, years later, we find that they are still with us, and that the technological developments that have benefited other window types so much have not been lost on this traditional, loveable window.
At Streamline Windows we never gave up on them. We knew that they had not been the most common window in the world for so long without a very good reason. And that reason is that they simply work. We have been manufacturing them since the day we opened for business.
With the benefit of the new techniques in manufacturing and installation, and the new materials used in window manufacture, they have not only been able to survive, but are almost as popular as ever. And it’s not difficult to see why.
Now that most casement types are made from aluminium frames, they enjoy the same advantages that are enjoyed by other types of window. They are now free of all the drawbacks of having been made from softwood. They, too, can boast of good, modern looks, stylish appearance, almost invincible security, and ease of use and maintenance. And as for being wind and weatherproof, they always were the tops for that.
They are versatile too, and in a way that, for example, sliding and double hung windows are not. They can form bay windows and other architectural shapes to enhance the character of your home. And perhaps that’s the key to their survival and popularity – their very character.
Our casement types of windows Brisbane can be supplied in units as large as 6 metres wide by 2.5 metres high, and made with awning windows above if required. They open wider than old fashioned wood casements owing to the advanced, sleek design that aluminium makes possible, and thereby let more light and air into the room than ever before. And double glazing is optional as well.
In summary, not only are casement windows here to stay, they have more benefits for home owners than ever before.
